‘Meet the Family’ – Primary School Workshop
This workshop was developed to introduce young primary school students to the instruments of the woodwind family.
Using fun arrangements of well-known classical and popular numbers, members of London Myriad demonstrate each instrument, showing students some of the sounds and effects that they can produce. Describing how composers use the tonal colour and range of each instrument to create characters or to create moods in their music is an especially fun part of the workshop.
Students are also shown some of the additional instruments in the family including the piccolo, alto flute, cor anglais and bass clarinet. Using interactive techniques the ensemble will teach the basics of pulse and rhythm and give participants the opportunity to test out their own lung power and breath-control using our fun breathing trainers!
An inspiring workshop from the London Myriad Ensemble, promoting the versatility and range of the instruments of the woodwind family.
“Thank you so much for a fantastic performance for the children of Sarratt School for the Sarratt Festival of Music. Your presentations were excellent, very professional and slick. You had the children spellbound and I am sure that many of them will now be wanting to learn wind instruments. Thank you also for your care and attention to details concerning the kind of music and performance that was required. I would recommend you highly.”
